thursday

For some reason I thought it was Friday all day... that's until I talked to Mel a min ago while she was stuck in what sounded like some pretty wretched traffic on delta highway (tipped over semi!). She asked me what day it was and I said I don't know, I think it's Friday. But then she said, no, it's Thursday. And then I thought back to last night when I went to boxing and no-gi class and realized that was on Wednesday. So it must actally be Thursday.

I don't know why but I think it's Friday all the time now. Except on the weekend. Then it's the weekend. But every other day seems to be Friday. Or maybe it's just Thursday and Friday that seems to be merging together for me. I vote we just get rid of Thrusday and have two Fridays. Fridays seems to be more fun.

Except it's not Friday and I'm having a lot of fun today. So maybe we should just keep Thursday around for a while. It would probably really mess up a lot of software out there if we decided to get rid of Thursday and have two Friday's instead.

But really doesn't - Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri, Fri - just sound like a lot more fun???

"we fix bad haircuts"

That's what the sign said outside "Hair Ba Doo Ba". Not really a fan of the name but I'd driven past the place a couple times on Amazon, on my way out to go driving on Fox Hollow. I'd seen the sign before, so I thought this might be the place to get my hair "fixed". Honestly I don't think I did that bad of a job myself. She just had to "round of the back" as she put it...

But if you look at a side by side comparison...

then you'll see definite improvement. But I have to say, this must have been how this haircut was developed. Because if you put your hair in a pony tail and then cut it off, you pretty much get this hair cut. And it was only $10 for the "fix" so I'd recommend it. The hair place, not necessarily cutting your own hair. But it was fun, so I wouldn't try to dissuade anyone either ;-)

P.S. Is it just me or does my neck look really small in the "fixed" pic??

bye bye...

I think it came out pretty good when I cut the pony tail off. I kind of like it like this. Feels funny having short hair again. I like it.

Oh, I don't know, Annie. I agree with Leah... looks pretty stylish. Besides, you could probably teach yourself how to do it in less than a weekend! Just think of the career opportunities it could lead to...
Y'know, just in case website design/hosting becomes obsolete.

So you think you can dance - final six

Watched this again tonight and I have to say my favorite two dances of the night were:
  • the "jazz" dance that Sonia choreographed for Mark and Courtney. It was just fun and different. I think everything worked well together, the music, the choreography and the dancers.
  • the one following it done by Joshua and Katee. I really liked Joshua's part. It was really strong. Enough so that I tried to watch Katee the 2nd time though but I just kept looking back to Joshua.

I kind of hate to see people elimiated now because I still want to watch them dance.

Scientific American MIND

This magazine is insanely interesting. I just went out to the mailbox and found the lastest issue sitting in there. I want to just sit down and read the whole thing cover to cover. But I have other stuff I need to get done now so I'm going to save it for tonight. Mabye I'll try to only read one article a day to spread it out.

But I did go ahead and read one article already. I meant to just glance but then quickly got sucked in to reading the whole thing. It was called, "The Hidden Power of SCENT". Here's one quote... "Smell subconciously facilitates a variety of human social interactions. People use smell to assess a person's likability, sexual attractiveness and emotional state. They can also use secent to distinguish a stranger from a friend, a male from female and someone who is gay from someone who is straight". If you want to read more you'll just have to buy the magazine!

late night php

Sometimes staying up till 4:30 in the morning doing programming just works. If I could stay up that late and work everynight I think I'd be much more productive. It's easier to work at night when no one's interupting you.

Sunday night I stayed up and finished a content management system in PHP. Getting started was the hardest since I didn't know any PHP when I started. But once I got past the admin login I'd made enough mistakes that the rest was a lot easier.

In general I think I prefer trial/error to learning things in a classroom. In the classroom there's a lot of stuff you learn that you don't need. Lots of time spent on waiting for other people. You could also say I wasted a lot of time firguring out how to fix mistakes I'd made when learning it on my own. But I remember that information a lot better than I'd remember a list of stuff on a piece of paper that had no real experience to back it up. So if I had the choice between a weekend class to learn what I needed to know and a weekend of figuring it out on my own, I'd do it my way. Besides, where would I find a class for exactly what I wanted. That's the beauty of doing it yourself. You get what you want.

And if it's part of your job and you get paid for learning it? Sounds like win win to me. And now that I know a least a little php, there's a couple other jobs out there that are waiting for me ;-)

clean out your inbox

Woke up at noon today (after going to sleep at 4:30). Usually I feel funny when I wake up late, but today was really great. I think it was just a carryover of that accomplished feeling from finishing that project last night. Anway, I went through and cleaned out my "inbox". I went from 143 emails to thirty something. So much nicer. Everything left in there I'm either waiting for a reponse on or have created a job ticket for. Being organized is invaluable. It's makes everything else run more smoothly.
